70’s glam and 60’s spirit

Whether we’re talking  the 60s or the 70s, fashion is all about reinventing from the past decades. Since Mad Men came on television, the smash hit series has reinstated the glamour and understated elegance of the 60s. Although the season has ended, the “Mad Men craze” shows no sign of slowing down, bringing with it the retro figure-hugging dress and full skirt for another round. Designers are reinterpreting them into lighter materials fit for spring – throwing away the mini dress and skirt, in favor of a bit more demure (yet still very sensual)  garments.  Ladylike with an attitude is the key here.

We are also seeing a lot of 70s on the catwalk; all those slinky long dresses, floppy hats and sky-high platforms are starting to remind us of the atmosphere at the infamous Studio 54 when it all happened.  This spring is not so much about revisiting those last days of disco, but all the more about capturing the underlying sexiness of it all (hand-in-hand with the mood of the 60s).

You don’t have to go full-out hippie (jumpsuits are a bit hard to pull off), there are many ways to turn last seasons boho pieces into a more sophisticated look.  Slightly flared jeans, a cute bow-blouse, chunky jewellery or a print dress are all nice examples on the 70s look that aren’t hard to pull off.
